Encounter God in Music
(Posted March 20, 2025)
Everything has the spirit of music in it. On this first day of spring, I can lean out my window and hear the different kind of song that the birds make, now that it’s mating season.
Music in the Fabric of the Universe
Music and its energy, as Plato alluded to, is part of the fabric of the Universe. Even galaxies play a tune. It’s a part of every culture, whether they celebrate it, or in repressive cultures, try to ban it. But you cannot ignore music. Like communications itself, music can automatically bring the feelings of one person into the soul of another. And sometimes there is so intensely a response that people begin to sing.
Music in Sunday’s Sermon
This Sunday we are so fortunate to have Music Minister Jim Moriarty back at the helm of our musical program for the Sunday March 23 service. With him is our wonderful Choir.
But this Sunday is also significant because it’s when, in our series on Thin Places where we can feel the presence of God, we share the “sermon” that this time will be the voices of extraordinary soloists. Each of them will sing songs that resonate with them deeply in their own souls, along with igniting beauty and passion in those of us who will be listening. Singing for us will be Cheryl Hill, Stephen Dickson, Nancy Wildman and Murdina Wright.
A Joyful Noise
This is the Sunday to invite your friends to attend, or to make sure they’re listening to our live broadcast. I hope you will be with us to hear Make a Joyful Noise – reaching out for God through song, music and celebration. See you this Sunday so we can have that great experience together.
